Athletic association formed at meeting Monday night

At an organizational meeting held Monday night, theAbbotsfordAthleticAssociation was formed. About 15 men attended and elected the following board of directors: Clayton Afkend, Tarz Fultz, Dr. A.H. Fults, Elmer Schraufnagel, Bob Mueller, Vern Marcott, Art Kumbler and Herbert Juneau.

Town of Holton donates $184.75 for Red Cross

Those who did the soliciting were Vernon Westphal, Otto Hackel, Ed Hollmann, Mrs. Melvin Bender, Clifford Anderson, Morris Gierl, Mrs. Frank Schopper, Mrs. Ray Pope, Louis Lueddecke and George Kadonsky.

Summer school gets OK, pool to open

The Abbotsford Board of Education approved the proposed summer school program for the district at its regular board meeting on Monday night. Two hundred and sixty-two students have enrolled in instructional swimming during the six week summer program.

Hellickson speaker at CHS banquet

Russ Hellickson, assistant wrestling coach at UW-Wis., gave the main address at the 1974 Colby High School Athletic banquet held at Dorchester Memorial Hall Thursday, April 4. Rev. Kenneth Dix gave the invocation and a buffet was provided for attendees.

Abby tracksters top Colby

The Abbotsford High School track team defeated the Colby runners 55-54 Monday night. Dale Nelson was Abbotsford’s only double winner. Randy Hesgard took first in the mile and two-mile runs for Colby.

Colby seeks money for annex utilities

Colby city officials are looking at a plan to finance their construction of sewer and water pipes to the northern annexed area this year without borrowing against the city’s general obligation debt.

The Abbotsford Sportsmen’s property on Pine Street in Abbotsford was recently purchased by Jon and Jennifer Podevels, and they wanted the old building removed, so the Abby firemen fired it up for a practice burn last week.
