Teachers sign contracts

Fifteen Abbotsford teachers have signed contracts to teach at the school next year. There is a possibility of the addition of a staff member for the grade school and there is one vacancy in the English department in the high school.

National Guard unit found in excellent order

The inspection report of Service Battery, 173rd F.A. Bn., of Abbotsford, was received and a rating of excellent was given to the local unit.

Lamont’s bulk fuel tanks moved to Hwy. 13

Lamont’s Service has completed the operation of moving their bulk oil tanks from the Soo Line property. A piece of land on Hwy. 13 south was purchased from the Frank Schraufnagel estate.

Rannow sets school pole vault record

Ross Rannow set a new record at Colby High School clearing the bar at 11’10.5” in pole vault competition Saturday at theWDLB Relays at Marshfield.

Abby pool well received

Since the Abbotsford pool opened Tuesday, April 16, the pool has been used to near capacity. Everyday, 260 students receive instructional swimming in place of other physical education activities.

PCA service award banquet held Saturday at Colby

Packaging Corporation of America honored thirty of its employees and their spouses or guests at its seventh annual Service Award banquet at the Colby Hotel on Saturday.

Curtiss interchange will begin in 2000

Curtiss area residents were told by state officials last week they will be getting their promised interchange at Hwys. 29 and E sooner rather than later.

Unity gets more USDA funding

The Village of Unity received a welcome check last week of $1,260,000 from the USDA’s Rural Development office in Wisconsin to help it construct its new sewage treatment plant. The check was handed over by Bryce Luchterhand, head of the state RD office to village president Viv Bloom.

Dorchester Fire Station breaks ground

Dorchester village officials broke ground this week for their new fire station to be constructed soon on Hwy. A East. The development will provide ample space for the department while freeing up space in the cramped municipal garage.
