A lot has happened since last put my typing skills to use in this space. Nathaniel and I played in the Colby alumni basketball tournament on March 23-24. I’m sure he updated you on how that went last week.

All I really have to say about that event is, 10 days later, I don’t know if my body has fully recovered yet. It was cool to see all the guys from my high school class that I hadn’t seen in six years, but all the running, lackadaisical defense and turnovers really took a toll on my body.

Going into the tournament, my mom cautioned me to not get hurt because we were heading on vacation as a family three days later.

Well, I made it through, relatively unscathed and we headed to Minneapolis to take a flight to New Orleans, La. on Wednesday of last week. From New Orleans, my family, consisting of my wif, my two brothers, my sisterin- law and my parents took to the sea as we boarded a cruise ship. This was our first time on a cruise so naturally, we didn’t know what to expect.

The destination was Cozumel, Mexico where we got eight short hours on shore. We spent our time in Cozumel on a boat tour. The boat was made of some sort of polycarbonate plastic which allowed us to see through the floor of the boat and into the water below.

We observed marine life, reefs and even a shipwreck the tour guide told us was the “Mexican Titanic.” Towards the end of the boat ride, the boat stopped about 150 yards short of our destination and we snorkeled back to shore. That was the coolest part of the trip to me. We got within feet of oceanic fish and despite the sea sickness we were feeling on the boat, I think it was worth it to explore the ocean at the end of the ride.

We spent some time at a resort, ate lunch and tested Mexican tequila. As someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy tequila, I have to say, Mexican tequila is very different tasting and actually enjoyable to me.

The trip as a whole was a ton of fun and the only way to explain it all would be to invite you on the next one. One tip for potential cruisers: I’d recommend maybe not going during spring break if you’re wanting a peaceful trip.

Anyway, we’re back in central Wisconsin and right on cue, we came back to a couple inches of snow. I’m sunburnt but at least the snow feels nice on my face and arms. I still wouldn’t be that upset if the snow stopped coming down and spring sports were able to enjoy playing outside.

I’m out of room and I haven’t even gotten to brag about the Milwaukee Brewers’ start to the season or complain about the Badgers men’s basketball team. Keep buying papers, people. I’ve got more to say!
