Mel Atzen elected new man on village board
Abbotsford voters chose Melvin Atzen as the newest addition to the village board during the most recent election. They also re-elected George Kelsey and Ed Stock as trustees, with 184 ballots being cast.
Huge crowd attends barber shop Charter Night Parade
Well over 1,000 people attended a performance of the Abbotsford barber shop choir, as well as quartets from Wausau, Eau Claire, Phillips, Menomonie and Ashland on Saturday evening in the Abbotsford gymnasium.

Colby Scouts receive Eagle awards
Jim and Mike Clifford were awarded Eagle Scout badges at the Colby Boy Scout Troop’s ceremony held on Sunday night at the St. Mary’s Catholic School’s gymnasium.
Abbotsford pool to open April 16
The finishing touches were put on the construction of the Abbotsford high school pool, which should be ready to be used the day that school reconvenes after Easter vacation.
Colby election results
Write-in candidate Mrs. Joe Clifford received 43 votes to incumbent Jacob Beyerl’s 40 in Colby’s Ward I election, bringing a new face to the city council. The proposed elementary school building referendum in Colby was defeated 566 yes votes to 985 no votes.

$444,000 block grant will help Unity build new sewer plant
The Wisconsin Department of Commerce announced that Unity would receive a grant that will help pay for over half of the new two-cell aerated lagoon and sand filter that will cost around $850,000. Village officials were grateful for the assistance of former Rep. Bob Zukowski and current Rep. Scott Suder for their assistance in obtaining thegrant.
Simonson, Lehman join Abby school board
Toni Simonson and Diane Lehman were chosen by Abby residents in the Tuesday election, beating out Lauren Ley and Jean Wenzel for the positions.
Abby will rent generators to ensure Y2K readiness
The city of Abbotsford will rent four gas generators for New Year’s Eve at the end of the year as insurance in case of interruptions of the power supply due to errors in computing due to the year changing over. The cost per generator will run between $4,800 and $9,600.
