Jack Nikolay will head Chamber of Commerce

Aspecial meeting of the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce was called Monday evening to appoint a president to take the place of Roy Tewksbury, who is leaving the position. Attorney Jack Nikolay was elected to act as president to fill the vacancy.

Abbotsford in Wisconsin Valley baseball loop

Abbotsford’s baseball team has been accepted in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. It had been a part of the Cloverbelt League. The Valley Conference is composed of teams from Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, Wausau, Antigo, Merrill, Rhinelander and Tomahawk.

Write-in candidate challenges in Colby

Candidates listed on the ballot for the aldermanic seats on the Colby City Council are: Ward 1, Jacob Beyerl; Ward 2, Robert Strathman, and Ward 3, Lee Brunker. All were unopposed until Wednesday when Mrs. Betty Clifford tossed her hat into the ring for the aldermanic seat in Ward 1.

Pinewood Derby highlights Abbotsford Cub Pack meeting

The Abbotsford Cub Scouts held their Pinewood Derby on Monday evening, March 25, at the city hall. Twenty boys raced their cars with Todd Medenwaldt taking third, Brad Devereaux placing second and Kent Meyer taking home the top spot.

Colby district to vote on school building

Voting on a proposed new elementary school for the city of Colby will be a referendum that the electors of the Colby School District will vote on in the spring election on April 2.

Elder Enterprises’ travel plaza breaks ground

The travel plaza of Elder Enterprises just south of the Hwy. 29 bypass of Abbotsford officially kicked off last week with a symbolic ground-breaking including developers, city officials and consultants. The project will be geared toward both truckers and families.

Four people run for two Abby School Board seats

The Abbotsford School Board seats previously occupied by Jenny Jakel and Gloria Everhard are up for election. Rev. Lauren Ley, Toni Simonson, Diane Lehman and Jean Wenzel are running for the open seats.

Colby booster club volleyball tournament takes place

The classes of 1998 and 1991 faced off in the championship game of the 1999 Hornet Booster club sponsored alumni volleyball tournament. The class of 1998 won the championship match in two sets.
