Fun band to entertain guests of chamber of commerce

The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce has set April 21 as a special evening for a dinner and fun for their guests. The ladies, faculty of the high school and grade school, the school athletes and members of the Wausau Fun Band will be guests at dinner.

Grade school tournament at Colby March 15-17

The fifth annual grade school basketball tournament will be held at the Colby High School gymnasium Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday March 15-17. Sixteen teams are entered and eight games will be played on Monday andTuesday and six games onWednesday.

The Abbotsford AFS was selected to host an out-in-state gathering of five foreign exchange students and five Americans abroad candidates this week, which is also AFS week at Abbotsford High School.

Raiders stop upset-minded Falcons

In tournament action against Loyal and Marathon over the weekend, the Falcons defeated the former before falling to the latter on Saturday. Schiferl and Nelson were the top scorers for the Falcons during the two playoff games.

Dorchester receives bids for fire station

The Dorchester Village Board recently opened 25 bid packages for work on its proposed new fire station, but did not award any contracts at its meeting March 3. Further negotiations will be held with low bidders with construction expected to begin by June.

Bishop Burke visits

Bishop Raymond Burke, head of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of La Crosse, made a whirlwind tour of the Thorp Deanery last week. He stopped at Continental Manor nursing home, Colonial Center, St. Bernard’s, St. Louis and St. Mary’s.
