Athens MCPL Story Time

Children of all ages and their parents or caregivers are invited to the Athens library branch for these 30-minute programs. There will be reading, singing and other literature- based activities on Mondays, Nov. 20 and 27, 10:30-11 a.m.

Senior Card Group

The Senior Citizens card group met on November 6 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall. Three games of Sheepshead were played. Steve Klockziem won the first game, and Tom Ellenbecker took second. Norbert Lake won the second game and Rick Schaetzel took second. Dave Perrodin won the third game and Andy Hoeft took second. Sally Stubbe received low score.

Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.

Edgar Circle of Joy Giving Tree

The Circle of Joy is sponsoring a “Giving Tree” for the Edgar area at Nicolet National Bank in Edgar. Decorations will be placed on the tree by Friday, Nov. 17, with a child’s age, clothing size and gift suggestions.

Gifts should be wrapped and returned to the bank by Thursday, Dec. 15.

MCPL Story Time

Story times for children of all ages and their parents/caregivers will be held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Edgar library branch. There will be stories, songs and other literature-based activities during the 30-minute program on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 11-11:30 a.m.

A Circle of Joy Christmas “Giving Tree” will be located at People’s State Bank, Marathon.

Ornaments with children’s ages and wish lists will be placed on the tree or available from tellers after November 13. All gifts are to be wrapped and returned to the bank tree no later than Friday, December 8. If you are interested in participating, pick up a name at People’s State Bank or The Village of Marathon City office.

Auxiliary Post #469

President Betty Blume called the meeting to order with 14 members present.

Opening meeting protocol was followed. Opening prayer was given by Chaplain Julie Carriveau.

The minutes of the October meeting were read by secretary Kathy Grell. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Joyce Braunel and seconded by Jean Knauf. Motion carried.

The treasurer’s report was read by treasurer Edee Zuleger. Motion to accept the treasurer’s report was made by Maria Graveen and seconded by Joanna Grell. Motion carried.

Bills for pins for Veterans Day and card making by the juniors were paid.

52 members have renewed for the 2024 year. November birthdays were announced. The group is currently working to update the contact list for members.

A card decorating activity for the junior members will be held at the Marathon Village Hall on Sunday, Dec 3.

A thank-you was read from the YMCA Troops Care Package Drive for the donation from the Auxiliary.

At the county ALA meeting, a donation was sent to Wreaths Across America. This program strives to place wreaths on all graves at King Veterans home during the holiday season.

The Veterans Day programs were held at all the schools on November 8. The students were seen proudly wearing their American flag pins.

A donation was made to St. Mary’s school to help replace their current flag pole.

A donation was made to Children’s Miracle Network in Marshfield.

A donation was made to get gifts for individuals on the giving tree at People’s State Bank in Marathon.

Discussion was held on hosting a Community Americanism Gallery this year. More information will be coming but the Auxiliary would like to showcase creative projects from community members of all ages centered on what it means to be patriotic.

Christmas cheer will be sent out again this year.

The Auxiliary will again be looking for two girls just finishing their junior year of high school to attend Badger Girls State in June. More information will be coming.

Arrow Tap has been sponsoring a tree decorating contest at the pocket park at the Heritage Center. The Auxiliary decorates a patriotic tree in conjunction with this activity. Members are seeking pictures of veterans and active military, which will be made into ornaments to decorate the tree. Call 715-506-1417 and ask for Kathy if you have a picture you would like to have on the tree.

Closing prayer was given by Chaplain, Julie Carriveau The next meeting will be the annual Christmas party, held Thursday, December 14 at 6:30. Members are asked to bring $5 to offset the cost of the main entree. A dish to pass and a gift ($10-$15) to exchange are optional.

Story times will be on Thursdays, November 16 and 30, 10:30-11 a.m.

Stratford Lions Club

The club held its November 8 meeting at the Stratford Community Hall at 6 p.m. Members enjoyed refreshments and a delicious German meal.

The members addressed new and old agendas. Some items of interest that the club has done in the past few months include: The annual Stratford Lion Golf outing at MCC on September 10. It was an enjoyable and successful event.

The club will sponsor two Stratford High School students to attend this year’s Badger Boys and Badger Girls events held in Eau Claire.

The club donated $1,000 to the United Way campaign and $200 to the Stratford Food Pantry.

The club collected locally 202 pairs of old eye wear that were collected from our drop boxes at Partner’s Bank and the Stratford Library. Thank you for donating your old eye wear.

Th club donated $2,150 to local Lion programs, The Wisconsin Lions Foundation, Leader Dog, District Hearing , Vitamin A project, Journey for Sight, the Lion’s Eye Bank, Pre-K Vision Screening and the Lion camp.
