November 6, 2013 -- Spencer residents were expected to pay about 30 cents more per day for water in 2014 to help the village fund a new municipal well construction project which was expected to cost $1.1 million. According to the proposed rate hikes, a household in Spencer that used approximately 3,000 gallons of water monthly would see a rate increase from $20.05 to $29.25. -- The Loyal High School Drama Club was to perform at sectional competition on Nov. 7 at UW-Eau Claire. They were to present “A Small Wooden Horse,” written by Ev Miller. Cast and crew members were Bailey Parker, Bailey Mueller, Rachel Anderson, Alec Krasselt, Reanna Oestreich, Seth Baumgartner, Karley Wehrman, Hannah Schreiner, Mikaela Krahn, Emily Nikolai, Alison Nikolai, Carly Stumpner, Amy Popp, Laura Kaiser, Valorie Brecht, Miranda Stumpner, Cole Stumpner, Jacob Brown, Karli Kiel, Veronica Nikolai and Erin Froeba.

November 11, 1998 -- Classes at the Greenwood School District were dismissed early on Nov. 10 after a pine tree fell due to high winds and knocked down two power lines. Power was cut off to both school buildings in Greenwood along with 200 other customers in the city. Power was restored by the end of the day. -- Mae Schunk, the former Mae Gasparac, a 1952 Greenwood High School graduate, was elected as the new Minnesota Lieutenant Governor during the Nov. 3 general election. She was the running mate of Jesse “The Body” Ventura, who won 37 percent of the state’s vote to become Minnesota’s new governor in a historic upset vote. -- The Greenwood Fire and Ambulance Association now operating out of its new station on Cannery Street. An open house was to be held Nov. 14 from 1-4 p.m.

November 8, 1978 -- Actions taken by individuals on Halloween night in the city of Loyal resulted in two arrests, a demolished police car and buildings and cars damaged by acts of vandalism. Many windows were reported to have been waxed or soaped including the windows of Trinity Lutheran Church and businesses on Main Street. The police department was called to put a stop to a crowd of 60-70 individuals who were throwing objects such as pumpkins and eggs at passing motorists as well as spraying a “barrel of colored liquid” onto parked cars. More aid was requested by the Loyal police to deal with the problem, and the squad car that responded from the city of Owen was demolished before arrests were made. The fire department was also called twice that night to put out fires that were deliberately set on Main Street, after which volunteers patrolled the streets to prevent any more fires from being set. -- Following the events of Halloween night, the Loyal City Council met to discuss how to prevent future events like it and to protect their police officers in the line of duty. The council considered purchasing an attack dog to be used by the department as well as looking into stricter rules around granting liquor licenses to businesses in town.

November 7, 1963 -- A School Safety Patrol had been established for students of the Greenwood Community School. Members of the first safety patrol were Randy Lombard, Peter Bjerke, Jerome Franz, Peter Myhrwold, John Schneider, Judy Hill, Betty Christopherson and Karlene Learman. “Remember When” items are taken from past issues of the Tribune Record Gleaner from 1968 to present, from the Greenwood Gleaner from 1957 to 1964 and from the Loyal Tribune prior to 1968.
