Colby Community Library asks, “May we help you?”

The Colby Community Library (CCL) is offering a variety of opportunities for the community in May. Stop in the library to see what is available for youth and adults.

Mini Canvas Art

Interested artists picked up over 125 mini canvases. The paintings will be judged and prizes awarded in youth, teen, and adult categories. Stop by the CCL to view the works of talented local painters.

Tech Class

Tech help will be offered at an adult education class at the library on Tuesday, May 13 from 2-3:30 p.m. Todd Meyer, from Chippewa Valley Technical College, will teach technology tips, free of charge, to those having questions about phones, computers/laptops, or tablets. Register by calling the CCL at 715-223-2000. This will be the final class before the summer break.

Puzzle Race

National Library Month (NLM) was celebrated in several ways during April, including a puzzle setting competition. It was held on April 21 with seven teams racing to set a 500-piece puzzle. Taking first place, with a time of one hour and nineteen minutes, were “Kaden and Emma’s Team” consisti ng of Kaden Haas, Emma Haas, Katie Haas and Vicki Urmanski. Second place winners were the “Let’s Get It Together” team with a time of 1 hour and 34 minutes. Members included Kim Metzke, Michelle Pickett, Linda Turnquist and Gail Wagner.

Take and Make

Free garden-themed “Take and Make” crafts for children are available. For adults to exercise their minds, word searches, crossword puzzles, and advanced dot-todot pages are being offered.

Wanted: Books and More

Forward Bank, Colby location, is collecting books, movies, audiobooks, music CDs, and puzzles for the Cheese Days Book and Movie Sale. Bring clean, salable items to Forward Bank during regular business hours now through July 1. No VHS, magazines, or Reader’s Digest Condensed books are accepted as well as damaged, or musty books. Before donating items from garage sales, price tags need to be removed.

“Sisters Under the Rising Sun” by Heather Morris. Members will decide on a year-end gathering date/location and rank the books read throughout the year.

Craft and Hobby

Friday, May 16 will be the last Craft and Hobby evening session until the fall. Doors open at 4 p.m. Beverages and snacks to share are welcome.

Summer Reading Program

“Color Your World: On Safari” is the summer reading program theme for 2025. Many exciting activities are planned, so watch for details in brochures available mid-May or check for information on the Colby Community Library website, Facebook page and Tribune-Phonograph.

The program is for youth ages 3-12; there is also a teen program for ages 13-19. Registration runs May 27 through June 7. For those under the age of three, the CCL offers the 1000-4000 Books Before (the end of) Kindergarten programs year-round.

Students in grades 4K through fifth grade from Colby Elementary and 4K through grade 8 from St. Mary School will be previewing the program during the week of May 19. If there are any other schools interested, please contact the library to make arrangements.

Hours: The CCL will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 26. Normal hours will resume at noon on Tuesday, May 27. Beginning on May 31, the CCL will be open for summer hours on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon.
