Co-op enters midseason form at Chippewa Falls

The Colby-Abby boys and Colby girls cross country teams traveled to Lake Wissota State Park in Chippewa Falls on Tuesday afternoon to face off against seven other teams. The boys team took sixth place, finishing with a final score of 146 points, while the girls team took third in their competition, ending the day with 83 points.

Hudson dominated the boys competition, taking the first four spots and finishing with a mere 17 points. The next closest team was Menomonie, which came away with 73 points.

Max Adams was the co-op’s top runner, finishing in 10th place out of a field of 131 athletes with a time of 17:35.6. It was the senior’s fourth top-10 finish this season and his second fastest race of the year.

Teammate Jack Schindler had his best race of his career, shattering his old personal best by taking off nearly threequarters of a minute from his old PR. He finished in 18th place with a time of 18:08.7.

Joseph Streveler finished as the third runner for the Colby-Abby squad and put up a near identical time to his PR set at Wausau East’s course. His time of 20:01.5 was two-tenths of a second faster than the 20:01.7 he ran at the Smiley Invitational and he earned himself 48th place.

Gavin Reis took 55th for the co-op with a time of 20:23.3 and the trio of Braylon Schoelzel, Carter Roth and Jacob Raatz finished in 74th, 75th and 76th to round out the team’s top seven runners, finishing with times of 20:55.5, 20:59.7 and 21:03.2. Raatz’s time was also a new PR.

Menomonie took first place in the girls’ competition, finishing with 27 points and New Richmond took second with 59 points.

Casey Reynolds continued her season of new personal bests on Tuesday, beating her top time set at Wausau East by eight seconds. Her new personal record is now 20:50.8, which earned her sixth place in Chippewa Falls.

MaKenna Herrmann had her best race of the year, posting a time of 21:13.8 to finish as the Hornets’ second runner and 11th overall.

Reagan Schraufnagel broke a longstanding personal best during the race. The senior had set her previous PR at the sectional meet in 2021 but will now have a new mark to shoot for after finishing with a time of 22:09.50 on Tuesday afternoon. The breakthrough earned her 19th place.

Annamarie Schmitt followed with a time of 22:35.0 to earn 27th place and teammate Ali Adams crossed the finish line shortly after to take 28th place with a time of 22:37.2, another PR for the Hornets.

Pearl Feiten and Veronica Mateer finished six and seventh for Colby, putting up times of 24:03.9 and 24:47.7 to take 44th and 55th respectively.
