March 10, 1900

A pleasant juvenile party was given at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. O. Pierce Thursday afternoon in honor of the 8th birthday anniversary of their daughter, Deette. A host of little folks were present, who came with gifts and good wishes for their charming hostess. A sleigh-ride added to the pleasures of the afternoon.

100 Years Ago March 5, 1925 Eight More Apply for Citizenship in June

Eight more applied Saturday to Head Naturalization Examiner R. K. Doe for citizenship to be granted to them at the hearing next June. This was the last opportunity for application in time for naturalization in June.

The June hearing will be on Monday, the first day of the month, before judge G. N. Risjord, with Mr. Doe examining and Clerk of Court M. W. Truax as clerk.

75 Years Ago March 9, 1950 Spring in The Air; Bears Come Out

Carl Klossner reports that spring is in the air. He is very certain of this because the two bears he keeps at his place came out of hibernation Saturday morning. They were out again in the afternoon, frolicking in the snow to loosen the joints that have been dormant since the latter part of last November when they went into their den to sleep for the winter.

For several years Carl has kept bear at his place and he says that when they come out of hibernation it is a certainty spring is not too far away.

March 6, 1975 Crafts Taught At Homemaker School Here

A small but intent crowd attended the annual Taylor County Extension Homemakers craft day Thursday in the multi-purpose building on the fairgrounds. The meeting was scheduled in the wake of the season’s worst blizzard cutting sharply attendance by homemakers living on country roads.

The session went off as scheduled, including the entire program of demonstrating five crafts, according to Mrs. Adolf Hoffman, town or Holway, cultural arts chairman. A potluck luncheon was served at noon.

25 Years Ago March 8, 2000 Kiwanis Ice Out barrel falls

An early spring thaw resulted in the earliest recorded date for the Kiwanis Ice Out Barrel to fall through the ice on the Medford mill pond. The barrel fell through the ice at 8:26 a.m. on Monday, March 6. Due to the warm weather, ticket sales had been cut off on Saturday afternoon.

Planning commission keeps with plan and OKs another rezoning to commercial use The conversion of the Hwy 64 corridor in Medford from residential to commercial use moved forward Monday night.

Members of the Medford Planning Commission gave their blessing to John and Angela Mueller to rezone 741 E. Broadway Ave. (Hwy 64) from R-3 multi-family residential to C-1 commercials use. The Muellers intend to tear down the existing home located next to the Family Video Building and construct a new real estate office building using the existing foundation.
