CRASH
On February 15, at 11:10 p.m., Taylor County sheriff’s deputies responded to a car versus pedestrian crash that occurred westbound on Hwy 64 in the town of Hammel. According to the crash report, Kyle Koontz, 29, of Marshfield, was walking eastbound near Hwy 64 and J. Garrett Rehak, 32, of Park Falls, was driving alongside him. Rehak was trying to talk with Koontz and get him to come off the road. A vehicle operated by Steven Okonek, 39, of Marshfield, was westbound on Hwy 64 and slowed down as he saw Koontz on the roadway. According to the report, Koontz jumped in front of the Okonek vehicle as it passed by and was injured on the roadway. Okenek stopped immediately after hitting Koontz. Koontz was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics with suspected serious injuries. TAYLOR COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

R EPORTS One vehicle crash

On February 14, at 3:10 a.m., a vehicle operated by Elizabeth Nelles, 29, of Westboro, was traveling eastbound on CTH D. The driver stated they looked at their phone while driving, lost control and crashed into the south ditch of CTH D. The vehicle received disabling damage and Nelles was cited for inattentive driving.

Two vehicle crashes

On February 6, at 12:45 p.m., a vehicle operated by Kyle Young Howard, 24, of Merrill, was traveling westbound on Hwy 64 when the driver lost control of the vehicle on black ice and slid into a vehicle operated by Christine Kepner, 62, of Athens. Kepner was making a left turn into the Medford School Forest at W2271 Hwy 64 in the town of Goodrich. The Kepner vehicle ended up in the ditch on the south side of Hwy 64 facing south. The Young Howard vehicle ended up in the ditch on the north side of Hwy 64 facing south. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Both Kepner and Young Howard were transported by ambulance to Aspirus Medford Hospital and Clinics with suspected minor injuries. Young Howard was cited for failure to wear seat belt as a driver, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, failure to keep vehicle under control, and operating while revoked (revoked due to alcohol/controlled substance/refusal).

On February 14, at 5:59 p.m., a vehicle operated by Randy Juedes, 47, of Medford, was northbound on Hwy 13 in the city of Medford. According to the crash report, the driver told law enforcement that due to road conditions he was unable to stop and he slid through the intersection. He stated that the northbound traffic had a red light. A vehicle operated by Tucyr Smola, 18, of Medford, was westbound with a green light and struck the Juedes vehicle. The Juedes vehicle received damage to the front passenger corner and a flat passenger front tire. The vehicle was removed by the owner. The collision caused damage to the front frame/bumper of the Smola vehicle pushing it into the front passenger tire, disabling it. Juedes was cited for violating a red traffic light.

Car vs. Deer

On February 19, at 6:20 a.m., a vehicle operated by Kimberly Shatwell, 38, of Medford, struck a deer while eastbound on Hwy 64 in the town of Browning. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

On February 12, at 6:05 p.m., a vehicle operated by Christopher Banks, 51, of Medford, struck a deer while southbound on CTH Q in the town of Medford. The vehicle sustained functional damage.

On February 14, at 5:45 a.m., a vehicle operated by Nikkita Muehlbauer, 38, of Medford, struck a deer while eastbound on CTH A in the town of Little Black. The vehicle sustained functional damage.

On February 13, at 4:45 a.m., a vehicle operated by Willard Fischer, 35, of Rib Lake, struck a deer while southbound on Hwy 13 in the town of Chelsea. The vehicle sustained functional damage.
