Hotel switches to Wisconsin-based franchise chain Medford’s lodging scene changed this weekend as AmericInn became Boarders Inn and Suites by Cobblestone. Hotel owner Marsha Nice said the switch in franchise agreements happened during the weekend. Cobblestone Hotels is based in the Fox Valley. It is a collection of new and converted properties in 13 states. The properties tend to be located in smaller communities like Medford. The 43-room Medford hotel is an ideal size for Cobblestone Hotels.

December 8, 1999 County gives nod to jail expansion The County Board took another look at the proposed jail expansion project last week, studied the architect’s latest plan, ensured provisions for future expansion onsite if needed, looked at other building site options, talked with the Sheriff and state jail inspector about the needs at the jail and how best to resolve those problems — and ended up voting 14-3 to approve the jail expansion/courthouse remodeling project as proposed on the current courthouse site. They later cleared the way for the project to begin with an unanimous vote authorizing the financing for the $8 million project.

December 5, 1974 Area Deer Harvest Best Since 1969
Preliminary deer registration figures released Tuesday in the Taylor county area showed an increase in the deer kill by 32 percent. Taylor county’s registration figures showed deer registration 769 as compared with 520 last year, an increase of 48 percent. The total on the district covering Ashland, Iron, Price and Taylor counties was released by Cliff —-, park Falls, area game manager.

With all members present, the city council approved the 1950 budget Tuesday evening and set the tax revenue at $4.00 per $100 of assessed valuation, which is a reduction from the $4.20 rate that was necessary for 1949. The rate was based on the assessed valuation of $4,204,600.
100 Years Ago December 4, 1924 Christmas Trees to Grow Out of Flag Sockets
Christmas trees will grow out of the floag sockets recently put up in the sidewalks by the American Legion for the Medford business men. At Tuesday’s meeting the Medford Commercial Club decided on the Christmas tree decoration for the downtown district. Further decoration of the city with lighted Christmas trees at the head of the courthouse stairway, and other places, was discussed.
125 Years Ago December 2, 1899 Meeting of the State Grange and Farmers Institute
The farmers of Taylor county and other interested in agriculture will be enabled to enjoy two different educational feasts in the very near future and the dates should be remembered.
The first meeting will be that of the State Grange Dec. 12, and will be held in the Christian Temperance Union Hall.
