Having county money in a state controlled saving’s account has Taylor County accountant Larry Brandl a little bit nervous.
He supported a plan at Monday’s airport committee meeting to bring the money back to Taylor County. He noted while it may still be raided to help balance the budget, the decision to spend it will at least be made at the local level and not have it disappear in the state budget.

The Rib Lake School board hired Everen Securities Inc. of Milwaukee as financial advisor for a possible school building referendum. In making the recommendation, District Administrator Dan Boxx said the company worked successfully in the past with the The Ladd Group, the district’s referendum consulting firm and Bray Associates, the district’s architect.
Boxx told the board Everen Securities would be able to help arrange the best financing package for the district as well as provide information in the planning stage concerning the impact of borrowing on the tax mill rate.

Werner Pflughoeft and Gilbert Strebig, pioneer businessmen in Medford, were cited Tuesday night as outstanding citizens by the Medford Area Chamber of Commerce. The recognition banquet took place at Club Florena.
Jack Hoesel, president of the chamber, welcomed the guests and introduced the members of the Pflughoeft and Strebig families in attendance. Present were 120 chamber members, wives and other guests. Following the introductions he called on toastmaster, Clifford Carlson, advertising manager of The Star News.

More than 1,000 students representing the musical organizations from the high schools of Edgar, Marathon, Spencer, Unity, Colby, Abbotsford, Dorchester, Rib Lake, Adams-Friendship, Athens, Stratford, Westboro, Prentice, Rosholt, and Medford participated in the Centennial Music Festival at Medford high school on Friday and Saturday. Wilbur Schafer of Eau Claire judged the vocal work and Herb Rehfeldt of Stevens point was judge of the band and instrument work.

Big dance at the Joe Seidl hall Medford Saturday evening. Music by the Andersons. Also a dance at Dittrich Hall Sunday evening, same music.
Mrs. Dane Perry of Prentice made a business call in our town last week Wednesday leaving for Rib Lake on the afternoon train.
Country School Supt. Emma Lupinsky made a visit at our school last week Tuesday.

May 21, 1898
Geor. Fritz and family moved down from Rib Lake this week and are now residents of this city.
Xavier Brandl is building a new residence for himself and family to replace the one destroyed by fire some time ago.
Dr. Nystrum visited Ogema twice the pst week in consolation with Dr. Williams of Chelsea. They performed a difficult operation on I.A. McCumber, town clerk of Westboro, for necrosis of the hip joint. He was also suffering from sciatic rheumatism, but is now improving in a vary satisfactory manner to the doctors.
