“It’s so great to find that one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.”

These are the words Terri and Earl Oberle have lived by for the past 50 years since they got married in 1972.

Terri (Liszewski) Oberle grew up in the Bellinger area. She is the daughter of Adeline—who just turned 98 years old, and the late Edmund Liszewski. Earl Oberle grew up north of Gilman. He is the son of the late Leo and Imogene Oberle.

Terri met Earl in her senior year of high school, he was the brother of one of her friends in school. On New Years Eve of 1968, Terri and Earl bumped into each other again and a year later they started dating during Terri’s sophomore year of college.

Terri attended college at UW-River Falls for physical education.

“I taught at Gilman School District for 37 years and coached high school softball and the volunteer program in Gilman. I have formed a lot of good friendships from working in the school for all this time,” Terri said.

Earl and Terri got married on December 2, 1972 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Their reception was held at Koolmo’s Ballroom, which is now known as Dot and Jerry’s.

Earl is a Marine Corps veteran. He worked on road construction for a few years until they bought a farm in 1977. They have since retired but still own the farm on Hwy 64 in Gilman.

Together Earl and Terri have four children, three sons and a daughter.Chad lives in Hudson working as a roof tech estimator. David runs Little Hills hunting preserve in Gilman, Shawn works in the woods, and their daughter, Danette works as a beautician. Their family quickly grew with the addition of ten grandkids. Terri enjoys watching her grandkids whenever she is able.

Terri said “It doesn’t seem like 50 years and then in a blink of an eye, here we are after all this time, still together.”

One piece of advice that Terri would give to any young couple just starting out would be to laugh, play, and work together.

In their spare time, Terri and Earl enjoy helping their neighbors, family and friends in any way they can.
