Genteman, Smith take 3rd at home meet

The Loyal-Greenwood (LG) cross country team hosted a home meet at the Loyal golf course on Saturday. Sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 60s provided the perfect backdrop for the 5K race. The date was changed from previous years, being held the second full weekend after Labor Day rather than the first, resulting in lower numbers but still a competitive environment for those who could attend.
For the LG boys, first to cross the finish line was freshman Landon Genteman. He placed third out of 31 competitors with a time of 18:45. Next was LG sophomore Andrew Lavengood, who placed sixth with a time of 20:15. Donovan Genteman, a freshman, took 11th with his time of 20:53. Next came Lucas Nielsen, a senior, who placed 16th at 23:58. Sophomore Lincoln Smith came in 18th at 24:09. Sophomores Mason Kohnert and Daniel Ruiz came in 22nd and 23rd, respectively, with times of 26:08 and 27:02. Not long after, sophomore Caje Moen dashed across the finish line, coming in 26th with a time of 27:22. Freshman Trey Eckes was after him with a time of 27:34, good for 27th place.
The meet included runners from seven schools, but only two boys teams registered a team score. Cadott came in first with 19 points and LG was second with 54 points.
On the girls’ side, there were 20 runners. LG’s Summer Smith, a senior, claimed third place at 24:15. Her teammate Brooke Smith, a freshman, took fifth place at 24:59. Other LG girls’ results were as follows. Bailey Eckes, a senior, placed sixth at 25:47. Freshman Harmony Buchanan took eighth place at 26:19. Aryn Johnson, also a freshman, placed 15th at 37:00.
Only two girls teams registered a team score. LG won the meet with 25 points, while Cashton took second with 30 points.
