Lumberjacks chop into Red Sox season record

Baseball is America’s pastime, and when better to celebrate, than close to Independence Day? That’s what the Cadott Red Sox thought, as they took on the Chippewa Falls Lumberjacks, July 2, on the road.
“The guys played tough tonight,” said manager Rick Danielson.
The home team struck first, putting a run on the board in the first inning, but Cadott answered back in the second, with two runs. The Lumberjacks tied it up in the third, then the Sox added another run in the fourth.
Chippewa Falls also got on the board in their side of the inning, putting two runs on the scoreboard. The Sox captured the lead once again, in the fifth inning, when two runs crossed the plate, but the Lumberjacks were not to be outdone and added three more runs in the seventh inning, as well as a run in the eighth, to take the 8-5 victory.
“The seventh inning was a rough one for us, but that happens sometimes,” said Danielson.
Gio Basile was on the mound for the Sox, going four innings, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs and striking out 2 batters, while Jack Gabler pitched relief, for the loss, allowing 4 hits, 3 runs and striking out 4. Zack Thiesse closed out the game, giving up a hit and a run, while punching out 2 batters.
Offensively, the Sox had hot bats, with Logan Burzynski collecting 3 hits and raising his season average to .391.
“All 10 batters in the line-up had at least one hit,” said Danielson.
Carter Hesselman had 2 hits on the day, while Hanson, Jack Kein, Luke Erickson, Cole Bakkum, Jack Redwine, Sam Feck, Cole Perlberg and Chad Kron all had a hit.
The Sox can also brag on having 10 players – six starters – on the North Division All-Star Team.
“We are very happy taking a 10-3 record into the All-Star break,” said Danielson.
