May 30 Colby Sectional
A few days later, Cadott was in Colby, for Sectionals, to determine who, if any, of the Hornets would qualify for State.
“It was a very exciting meet,” said Rothbauer. One exciting moment for Cadott, was that the girls team took first place at the meet, out of 35 teams, winning a Sectional championship.
“The girls were very focused and really came through in the clutch,” said Rothbauer.
Individually, Sonnentag again showed what she’s made of, placing first in the 100 hurdles (14.71), 400 dash (56.55) and 800 run (2:20.56), and second in long jump (17-04). Taking third in shot put and notching a trip to State, was Mathison (38-10.25), who also was sixth in discus (121-11).
Spaeth ended in sixth in the 200 dash (27.92), and seventh in the 100 dash (12.92) and 400 dash (1:03.82), while Goodman placed ninth in high jump (4-10).
Also qualifying for State, was Roen, who was second in the 400 dash (1:03.82), with Steinke in eighth place in the 800 run (2:04.87), Ramseier in 10th in the 400 dash (55.86) and Phelps in 15th in the 3,200 run (11:41.14).
The 4x400-meter relay boys team also competed, ending in sixth (3:36.63).
Despite a rain delay during the competition, Sonnentag, Mathison and Roen all punched their ticket to State, June 6-7, at La Crosse.
“We are really excited about seeing them all do their best at the State meet this weekend,” said Rothbauer.
