Sox take the win in a home doubleheader

By Ginna Young

On a perfect, albeit windy, Sunday for a baseball game, the Cadott Red Sox Baseball team played host to Chippewa River Baseball League opponents Osseo.

May 18 vs. Osseo (W 12-2)

Since Osseo has been the “gold standard” in the league for the last 10 seasons, the Sox had a lot to prove.

They started off the game strong, putting four runs in the opening inning and two more in the second. The Merchants had two runs cross the plate in the third inning, but from then on, it was all Cadott and they took a 12-2 win.

Gio Basile was on the mound in the first game, going five innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 runs, and striking out three batters.

Coming up with 3 hits each, for the Sox, were Carter Hesselman and Luke Erickson, while Jack Redwine, Cole Bakkum and Connor O’Reilly each had 2 hits. Logan Burzynski and Sam Feck each added a hit.

In game two, Cadott picked up where they left off, getting four runs, right off the bat. However, Osseo battled back to take a 7-4 lead in the fourth inning.

The Sox weren’t going down without a fight and put three more runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth, to tie it up. They held the Merchants scoreless, then added one more run in the fifth, to hold on for an 8-7 victory.

Zack Thiesse was at the helm for three innings, giving up 7 hits, 7 runs and 4 walks, with Jalen Pascal taking over to pitch for two innings, with 3 hits given up. Basile finished out the game for the Sox.

On offense, Erickson, Bakkum and Zac Merritt had 2 hits each, while Hesselman, Redwine, Burzynski and Chad Kron all added a hit.

“These are the first two times Cadott has ever beat them,” said manager Rick Danielson.
