Four-game stand doesn’t go the way of the Hornets

By Ginna Young

It was a rough week for the Cadott softball program, as they dropped all four games to the opposition.

May 13 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (L 8-4)

To begin what would be a long week, the Hornets were on the road at Stanley-Boyd, in a doubleheader. It was hard for Cadott to get a hit, until senior Rilei Weeks hit an inside-the-park homerun in the fourth inning.

That sparked the bats to get going. “…But, unfortunately we couldn’t finish the job,” said coach Lexie Rothbauer.

Taking the 8-4 win, the Orioles claimed game one of the night.

Junior Kennedy Nerdrum was at the helm for Cadott, going five innings, allowing 15 hits, 12 runs and 5 walks, and striking out 7.

May 13 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (L 12-1)

In the second game, the Hornets had some errors snowball on them and the Orioles took the win, 12-1.

“We weren’t able to get our hits going enough to battle back,” said Rothbauer.

On the mound, was senior Kasey Moldrem, who went six innings, giving up 12 hits and 8 runs.

Offensively, Nerdrum and Weeks each had 2 hits, with Moldrem chipping in with a hit.

May 15 vs. McDonell conference (L 10-2)

Next up, Cadott was at home against McDonell, but again, things didn’t go the Hornets’ way and the Macks walked away with the win, 10-2.

“We were able to get our bats going, but just couldn’t execute enough hits to the right places,” said Rothbauer. “We put on a tough battle throughout the whole game.”

Moldrem was again at the helm, going seven innings, allowing 14 hits and 10 runs.

On offense, Nerdrum, Weeks, and juniors Lexi Bremness, Abi Bowe and Karlee Davis all added a hit each.

May 16 vs. E.C. Immanuel non-conference (L 6-3)

With no time to draw a breath, the Hornets then met E.C. Immanuel on the road, in a back-and-forth battle.

“We were able to string together some hits and RBIs to take the lead,” said Rothbauer. “E.C. Immanuel was able to clinch the win (6-3) with two pickle situations that didn’t play out in our favor.”

Again pitching, was Moldrem, who went six innings, giving up 5 hits and 6 runs, while striking out 9.

Moldrem added 2 hits to the mix, while Weeks, Davis, and junior Gracie Dahm and sophomore Kaylee Reinke all had a hit.

“We kept our mental toughness throughout the whole game,” said Rohtbauer.

Cadott’s final record sits at 4-13 overall and 1-11 in the West Cloverbelt Conference.
