Sox reel in the Sturgeons

By Ginna Young

In the official season opener, the Cadott Red Sox Baseball team was on the road to Jim Falls, May 4, playing the Sturgeons. Cadott was at their best, taking a 9-3 win home with them.

“The guys played a very sharp first game of the year,” said manager Rick Danielson. “Defensively, they had zero errors in the game. At the plate, they showed great discipline, walking and swinging at good pitches.”

Picking up where he left off last season, Zack Thiesse was on the mound for the Sox, going just over eight innings, giving up 6 hits, a run and striking out 2. Alex Schmidt then took over, finishing out the game, with a hit and 2 runs.

“We only had about half of our roster available for the game,” said Danielson. “We are waiting for nine guys to join the team, once their college/high school teams are done playing.”

Offensively, Zac Merritt had 3 hits, while Sam Feck added 2 and Carter Hesselman, Logan Burzynski, Chad Kron and Tony Riley all chipped in with a hit each.

The Sox are already looking ahead in the schedule, when they meet the Osseo Merchants, the same team who won the South Division last season.

“This will be a great early season test for us,” said Danielson.
