A cleaner game is what will lead Hornets to wins

Cadott’s baseball program saw some close games, but couldn’t overcome the scoreboard to take the win.
April 15 vs. Fall Creek conference (L 7-5)
The Hornets were at home against Fall Creek, with the game starting slow for both teams. Through two and a half innings, there was no score, but in the bottom of the third, Cadott had a run cross the plate and added another in the fourth inning.
Fall Creek struck back in the fifth inning, with three runs, which the Hornets answered with two runs of their own in their side of the inning, to make the score 4-3 in their favor. Both teams scored a run in the next inning, but in the seventh, the Crickets scored a lone run and two more in the eighth inning.
“The boys battled to the end,” said coach Brandon Geist. It just wasn’t enough and Cadott was unable to add any more runs, watching Fall Creek take the win, 7-5.
“We played a pretty solid game and just couldn’t come up with the plays needed at the end,” said Geist.
Senior Warren Bowe was on the mound for Cadott, going just over four innings and allowing 5 hits, 3 runs and 6 walks, while striking out 13 batters. Freshman Drew Rykal then took over, going three innings and giving up 3 hits, 4 runs and 4 walks, but striking out 4.
Rykal also had 2 hits, offensively, while freshman Jake Weeks and sophomore Isaac Wellner each came up with a hit.
April 21 vs. Osseo-Fairchild non-conference (L 5-3)
It was then off to Osseo-Fairchild, with Cadott coming out hot, knocking in two runs in the opening inning. Both teams then went scoreless through the next two innings, before each bringing a run across the plate in the fourth inning, but that would be it for Cadott, as Osseo added four runs in the fifth inning, to take a 5-3 victory.
“Tonight, we had a few errors and base running mistakes – that is costing us some runs,” said Geist.
Bowe was again on the mound, going three innings and striking out 7, while junior Aiden Rykal went two innings, allowing 4 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks and punching out 3 batters. D. Rykal also took a turn, going an inning and giving up 2 hits, while striking out a batter.
Wellner and Bowe each had 3 hits in the match, with D. Rykal and junior Michael Wellner each adding a hit.
“If we can put together a cleaner game, we will start winning these games,” said Geist. “Just need to stop beating ourselves.”
