Cornell’s girls basketball program was on the road for a trio of games, with the Chiefs winning over one of their opponents.
Jan. 14 vs. Birchwood conference (W 65-56)
Birchwood was the first on the week’s schedule and while it was a close match-up, the Chiefs took the win, 65-56.
Leading for Cornell, was senior Bralee Schroeder, with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals, followed by sophomore Haylee Ellis, who ended with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Senior Alyssa Bowe came next, with 8 points and 5 steals.
Sophomore Anelise Larson finished the night with 2 points and 9 rebounds, with sophomore Annabelle King adding 2 points and 4 rebounds, and freshman Kaitlyn Helland chipping in with 2 points.
“We worked well as a team,” said coach Stacy Schroeder. “Took better care of the ball and had good shooting.”
Jan. 16 vs. Clear Lake non-conference (L 81-38)
The Chiefs were then off to Clear Lake, but offensive woes led to Cornell dropping the game, 81-38.
“We kept up pretty good in the first half,” said S. Schroeder. “Once we started trailing a little bit, the girls seemed to give up hope, letting them score easily in the second half.”
Ellis scored 15 points for Cornell, as well as 6 rebounds, with B. Schroeder right behind, with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Bowe contributed 10 points on the night.
Jan. 17 vs. Clayton conference (L 56-32)
Finally, Cornell headed to Clayton, but fell shy of a victory, watching the home team claim a 56-32 win.
The Chiefs now sit at 3-10 on the year and are 2-5 in the East Lakeland Conference.
