Hot hitting leads Hornets to victory over Chieftains

To open the basketball season for the boys, Lake Holcombe’s program played host to the Cadott Hornets, Dec. 2, in a non-conference match-up.
The first half was fairly consistent until just before halftime, when Cadott started knocking down three-pointers, for a 15-0 run before the break. Senior Cameron Allard was hot that night, much to Lake Holcombe coach Dave Engel’s dismay.
“Cameron Allard was hitting threes from Steph Curry range, with a hand in his face,” said Engel.
Things didn’t pick up for the Chieftains and Cadott claimed an 80-48 victory.
“As a team we passed the ball very well and we were able to get a lot of open shots,” said Cadott coach Shawn Schoezel. “We were also able to get 17 offensive rebounds, which led to a lot of second-chance points.”
For Lake Holcombe, senior Brian Strzok carried off the honors, coming up with 22 points, followed by sophomore Emmit Johnson, with 16. Senior Trent Lee and sophomore Connor Kane each added 6 points, while freshman Kyle Heidtke chipped in with a point.
On the Hornets’ side, senior Braden Schneider led with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, with senior Jackson Barone notching 16 points and 9 rebounds. Allard ended the night with 15 points and 5 rebounds.
