Lake Holcombe struggling to find offense with Falcons

By Ginna Young

Lake Holcombe was on the road Oct. 15, in an East Lakeland Conference volleyball game at Flambeau, to wrap up the regular season. The Chieftains started out strong, capturing the first set, 25-21, but Flambeau came back to take the second set, 25-19.

“The team played very well in the first set and made some brilliant plays,” said coach Beth Meddaugh. “We really struggled to get our offense going in the other sets, though.”

The Chieftains battled, but the third set also went to the Falcons, 25-20, and the fourth set was not close, 25-10, giving Flambeau a 3-1 win.

Freshman Breanna Frear led with 8 digs, followed by senior Emmy Kirkman and freshman Jayna Erickson, with 5. Frear also had 10 assists, while sophomore Chloe Irwin had 4 kills and Erickson added 3.

“Serving was a bright spot for the night, with two players, Alexia Hoffner (junior) and Breanna Frear, serving at 100 percent,” said Meddaugh.
