Mellen digs out of early hole to top the Chiefs
By Ginna Young
In an out-of-conference game Aug. 29, Cornell’s football program played host to the visiting Mellen Granite Diggers, in a match against not just each other, but the weather. Despite severe storm warnings, the game was able to take place.
The Chiefs got on out on the board first, giving hope that they could keep the momentum, but Mellen was determined and answered, score for score, in the first quarter. By the second half, they opened it up, putting 14 points on the board, while leaving Cornell scoreless.
The second half of the game was much the same, with the Diggers continuing to score and the Chiefs unable to put up any points. When time ran out, the match went to Mellen, 52-12.
