Growth shown in the way young Knights team plays

By Ginna Young

They may be young, but the Cornell-Lake Holcombe golf program has come a long way since the start of the year, and don’t show any signs of letting up, heading into the post-season.

The Knights were at Birchwood, in the next-to last regular season match, with low scores recorded by each of the athletes.

Junior Torren Parker carded the best score for the team, with a 48, followed by freshman Bryce DeJongh, with 54, and sophomore Carson Stipek scoring 60.

It was a tough course at Rice Lake’s Turtleback location, as the Knights played their first 18-hole match of the season.

“It was a cold, long affair, but they battled through and I’m proud of the scores we were able to bring in, said coach Megan Bitney.

DeJongh came in with the lowest score of the day, with a 52, while sophomore Logan Jaedike had 55. Sophomore Alex Dixon followed that up with a score of 57 and Stipek carded a 64.

“Overall, we are incredibly proud of these young men and how far they’ve come, not only as a team this year, but also as individuals growing in the sport,” said Bitney.
