Changing up some events didn’t slow down Knights

The Cornell-Lake Holcombe track team was in action May 10, on the road at New Auburn, with a few personal bests.

“We had a lot of great performances, but also a few downers,” said coach Sean Schmidt.

Senior Trent Nitek took top honors for the boys, placing first in the 100-meter dash, in a time of 12.07, and third in the 400-meter dash (57.18).

“Trent Nitek struggled with some leg tightness and was unable to finish his last event, so our goal will be to get him back to peak running condition by Regionals – which means we’ll be resting him for conference,” said Schmidt.

Sophomore Alex Dixon followed that up with a second place finish in the 800-meter run (2:21.69) and sixth in the triple jump (30-05.5), while senior Will Peterson placed third in the discus throw (111-06) and shot put (37-01).

Junior Chase Burgess finished fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.27), fourth in the 100 dash (12.57) and eighth in long jump (14-00.5). Sophomore Ronin Minnich placed sixth in the 800 run (2:44.45), while senior Zach Schurtz was 10th in the 100 dash (13.57) and 12th in the 200 dash (29.82).

On the girls’ side, freshman Katya Kuc came in second in pole vault (7-00) and sixth in shot put (26-01.5), while senior Lauren Samardzich was fourth in the triple jump (24-03). Also placing fourth, was sophomore Megan Paff, in the 100 dash (15.35), as well as fifth in shot put (27-05) and sixth in the discus event (69-09), while sophomore Hannah Kinard was fifth in the 100 dash (15.87).

Although they usually run the 4x100-meter relay, several of the girl runners placed first in the 4x200-meter.
