Hornets running their best times of the year

Cadott’s track program was on the road the short trek to Stanley-Boyd, May 3, for an afternoon of competition.

“It was great to have a meet with nearly perfect weather,” said coach Pat Rothbauer.

Claiming first place in the 4x800-meter relay, in a time of 11:01.54, was the team of senior Jaycee Stephens, juniors Cortney Weggen and Lyla Weggen, and sophomore Lilly Spaeth.

Individually, for the girls, sophomore Iszy Sonnentag took first in the 400-meter dash (58.79), as well as second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.67). Placing second in the discus throw (108-10), was sophomore Haley Mathison, who also came in fourth in the high jump (4-06) and seventh in the shot put event (32-07).

Taking third in the triple jump (33-00.75), was junior Adrianna Goodman, who also was sixth in the long jump (15-03), followed by L. Weggen, who was fourth in the 3,200-meter run (13:50.14), while C. Weggen was a mere one second behind in that event for fifth place (13:51.21).

Junior Abigail Goettl finished fifth in long jump (15-04), with Spaeth placing seventh in the 400 dash (1:12.45) and Stephens in seventh in the 800-meter run (2:43.97). Rounding out top 10 finishes, were sophomore Taylor Hager, who was eighth in the 800 run (2:44.08), senior Emma Kowalczyk, placing 10th in the triple jump (29-09.5), and junior Keira Urbanek, finishing 10th in the 200-meter dash (29.79). “We had a lot of athletes running their best times of the year,” said Rothbauer.

On the boys’ side, freshman Kaden Roen took first in the 400 dash (53.93) and fourth in the 200 dash (23.58), while senior Wyatt Engel was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (17.42) and sophomore Saibyn Will also was fifth in the 1,600-meter run (4:56.73).

Senior Eli Burich finished in eighth in the 3,200 run (12:26.93), with freshman Beau Steinke coming in eighth in the 1,600 run (5:04.19) and ninth in the high jump (504), while junior Ethan Kerschner was ninth in the 800 run (2:29.41).

“We are working hard and getting prepared for the end of the season,” said Rothbauer. “Can’t believe we are getting close to the end.”
