Cadott wins over Regis after three years’ drought

In both their games over the week, the Cadott baseball program faced Regis, in West Cloverbelt Conference action.

April 23 vs. Regis conference (W 10-2)

The first game in the series fell at home for the Hornets, where Regis struck first with a run in the opening inning. Both teams would score a run in the second inning, with the Ramblers leading 2-1, but Cadott opened it up in the third, putting two runs on the board in the next three innings, as well as three in the sixth.

That gave Cadott the 10-2 victory, raising already high spirits.

“It was also youth night at the game, as the kids got to come play catch with the players and stand with us for [the] National Anthem,” said coach Brandon Geist, “and each player who attended, was given a free ice cream cone from the Village Scoop.”

Junior Warren Bowe went 5.2 innings on the mound for the Hornets, allowing 5 hits and striking out 11, while senior Conner Roth pitched just over an inning, and gave up no hits and struck out 3.

On the offense’s side, junior Brandon Sikora had 3 hits, while senior Axel Tegels, and sophomores Aiden Rykal and Michael Wellner each came away with 2 hits. Roth, senior Easton Goodman, junior Braden Denzine and freshman Isaac Wellner all added a hit.

“All around great game played, as this was first time Cadott beat Regis, since this year’s senior class were freshman,” said Geist.

The Hornets again met Regis a couple days later, this time, on the Ramblers’ field. The offense wasn’t there for Cadott early on, as Regis had scored eight runs by the end of the third inning, opposed to only one from the Hornets.

Cadott’s bats woke up by the sixth inning, as they knocked in a run and three more in the seventh, but Regis continued to score and walked away with a 10-5 victory.

“We got off to a very rocky start and couldn’t recover from it,” said Geist.

Roth was again on the mound, going an inning, and giving up 5 runs, a hit and 5 walks. Rykal then took a turn, pitching for four innings, allowing 5 runs, 7 hits and striking out 2. I. Wellner followed that by striking out a batter.

Bowe ended with 2 hits, while Tegels, Rykal and I. Wellner each had a hit.

“The biggest thing we can take from tonight, was that we didn’t give up and we got a late rally going, but we fell short,” said Geist.

The Hornets sit at 4-6 overall and are 2-3 in league play.
