Lake Holcombe has the potential to reach the top

By Ginna Young

In adding 13 new archers this year, the Lake Holcombe program was ready for what competition could throw at them March 22-23, at the State tournament in Wisconsin Dells.

“We have some great leaders in our high school archers,” said coach Ashley Carothers. “They have been great motivators this season, for our younger ones.”

Despite shooting well, Lake Holcombe fell short of qualifying for Nationals, but did see many personal bests.

“We are a young, second-year team,” said Carothers. “Even though we didn’t have the results that we were hoping for at State, we are going to stay positive and keep working hard.”

Recording the highest score for the team, was junior Trent Lee, with 270 and a 20th place finish, followed by sophomore Logan Jaedike for 22nd and a score of 269. Freshman Trevor Trip was next, scoring 259 and ending in 35th, while junior MacKenzie Bera placed 35th, scoring 257.

Coming in with a score of 256 and a rank of 42nd, was eighth grader Andrea Friedman, with seventh grader Katelyn Armstrong next in 41st place, with a score of 244. Sixth grader Dylon Richards followed that up with a score of 240 and a 48th place finish, while sixth grader Logan Hoffner scored 219 and was 80th.

Senior Jesse Wright placed 60th, with a score of 214, while sophomore Donovan Bera also had 214, placing 84th. Seventh grader Aleigha Richards came next, with a score of 212 and 69th place, and senior Quinn Porter was 63rd, scoring a 203.

Freshman Austin McGinnis followed that with 88th place and a score of 200, with junior Hunter Fasbender ending in 62nd, with a score of 190. Seventh grader Lillian Goeldner scored 177, finishing 92nd and scoring 177, while eighth grader Lane Porter ended 116, with a score of 61.

“We will learn from this and use it as motivation to come back stronger next season,” said Carothers. “You will see us at Nationals in the future.”
