Kubista top archer in the state, breaks the school record

By Ginna Young

Cornell did themselves proud at the State archery tournament in Wisconsin Dells, March 22-23, as senior Faith Kubista qualified for Nationals in bullseye and 3-D.

“She received the highest female archer score in bullseye, with a score of 293 out of a possible 300,” said coach John Kilde. “This breaks the current school record for bullseye and makes her the top bullseye female archer in the state of Wisconsin.”

Kubista also holds the school record in 3-D, which she accomplished earlier in the year, at a shoot in Thorp.

Also qualifying for Nationals, was the high school 3-D team, with a score of 1,564, while individual 3-D archers Carter Harycki and Grace Harycki qualified.

“We had an amazing time at state,” said Kilde. Following, Kubista, was C. Harycki, with a score of 286, who placed third, while sophomore Addy DeJongh was 12th, scoring 272. Sophomore Anthony Schofield came next, with a score of 271, in 19th place. Eighth grader Spencer Schwingle followed that with a score of 270, ending in 18th, while freshman Ara Ferguson was 24th, scoring a 264, along with freshman Landon Larson, who placed 31st.

G. Harycki added a score of 263, placing 22nd, with junior Izzy Schwingle in 32nd, scoring 259. Eighth grader Ann Pogodinski came in 38th, with a score of 259, followed by freshman Jac Wilson, in 43rd, scoring 256. Lillian Diamond, eighth grader, finished with a score of 240, in 77th, with eighth grader Eliana Schottelkorb scoring 235, for a finish of 83rd.

Rounding out the scoring, was sixth grader Abigail Pogodzinski, with 40th place and a score of 233, and sixth grader Cade Anderson, who scored 212 and finished in 93rd.

“I am excited to see how the archers do at Nationals in (May 9-11, Lousiville) Kentucky,” said Kilde. “I am currently working with the school system, to find out how they are going to support our archers on this adventure.”
