Chiefs felled by powerful Lumberjacks in playoffs

By Ginna Young

It was off to No. 2 Drummond, for the Cornell boys basketball program, in WIAA playoff action Feb. 27. Going in as the No. 15 seed, the Chiefs made the long trek, with their offense faltering early on.

Cornell was held to just eight points in the first half, opposed to the Lumberjacks scoring 38. The Chiefs held Drummond to only 21 points after the break, but their own offense still wasn’t there and Drummond held on for a 59-19 win, putting Cornell’s season at an end.

Sophomore Carson Stipek led for the Chiefs, with 8 points, with senior Bentley Spangler right behind, ending with 7, while senior Jayden Joas-Shaw and junior Hunter Anders each added 2 points.
