Tegels, Kingston crowned for Hornets at Sectionals

By Ginna Young

After qualifying at Regional action the week before, four Cadott boys wrestlers headed to Edgar, Feb. 17, to compete at the Division 3 Sectionals and three out of the four are moving on to the State level.

“I could not be more happy about our athletes’ effort and performance at Saturday’s Sectionals,” said coach Josh Spaeth.

Returning to State for the second year in a row, senior Axel Tegels (215 pounds) won over Shell Lake’s Steven Hoy, before taking out Stratford’s Walker Weis, allowing him to meet Boyceville’s Zach Hellendrung in the championship match. With a 4-3 decision, Tegels punched his ticket to the State competition.

“Axel is the final Tegels brother to come through the program,” said Spaeth. “This will make seven State appearances for the family.”

Also making the second trip to State for Cadott, is junior Kaleb Lodahl (113), who won over Ladysmith’s Alex Mikunda and Auburndale’s Derek Godard, before facing Stratford’s Colin Cournoyer, for a win by fall, in 5:53.

“Both Kaleb and Axel redeemed losses from the Regional, to become Sectional champions,” said Spaeth.

Earning his first trip to State, is senior Caden Kingston (175), who battled back from early losses, to claim a third place victory, winning over Cumberland’s Dau-Tre Allen, with a 15-9 decision.

“Caden put in a tremendous amount of time in the off-season, to accomplish his goal of qualifying for the State tournament,” said Spaeth. Unfortunately, sophomore Mitchell Reineke saw his season come to an end, and will now cheer on his teammates on the sidelines during the State tournament Feb. 22-24.
