Cadott pulls out the stops over Pirates in crossover

By Ginna Young

Closing out the regular season, the Cadott girls basketball program hosted Gilman, in a league crossover Feb. 15.

“We got off to a nice start,” said coach Dave Hazuga. “Gilman is a good team, they came back.”

By the break, the match was tied at 18-18. “We came out with good focus in the second half and the girls put some nice runs together,” said Hazuga.

It was close, but the Hornets wouldn’t back down from the challenge and closed out the game with a 56-52 win over the Pirates.

“It was an exciting game for the girls, being our last regular season home game,” said Hazuga.

Senior Emma Kowalczyk led for Cadott, with 17 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals, while sophomore Taylor Hager knocked down a pair of three-pointers, finishing with 14 points and 4 steals. Danielle Sikora came next, with 10 points and 9 rebounds, with sophomore Lilly Spaeth connecting on two shots from beyond the arc, for 6 points.

Right behind, was junior Tarynn Donahue, with 5 points and 2 steals, and senior Bradee Burish added 4 points.

Cadott’s final regular season record is 10-13 overall and 3-11 in the West Cloverbelt Conference.
