Chieftains come out on top over visiting Chiefs

The Lake Holcombe Chieftains and Cornell Chiefs boys basketball programs met Feb. 6, on Lake Holcombe’s home court, in a rivalry game.

Getting a good lead in the first half, the Chieftains were up by 27 at the break and while Cornell’s defense fared better in the second half, scoring remained an issue and Lake Holcombe claimed the win, 73-32.

Senior Trent Nitek led for the Chieftains, with 15 points, while freshman Emmit Johnson and senior Taye Yeager were right behind, with 14 and 13, respectively. Junior Brian Strzok followed that with 11 points and junior Chase Burgess was next, with 10.

Freshman Connor Kane added 4 points, and juniors Ryley Craker and Owen Meddaugh, and sophomore Tyler Hattamer all chipped in with 2 points each.

Leading for Cornell, was senior Bentley Spangler, with 9 points, followed by junior Torren Parker, with 8, who was followed by senior Jayden Joas-Shaw, with 7. Junior Hunter Anders was right behind, with 6 points and sophomore Carson Stipek ended with 2.
