Fighting for the right to advance, Regional competition took place Feb. 10, in Auburndale, with Cadott’s wrestlers ready for action.

“A few wrestlers fell short of qualifying by one match,” said coach Josh Spaeth. “We are a young team, who had to compete in a very tough Regional.”

Coming up with second place, was senior Axel Tegels (215 pounds), winning over Taydyn Angell, of Cornell-Lake Holcombe-Gilman, in a 14-2 major decison, as well as senior Caden Kingston (175), who won over Edgar’s Jase Apfelbeck, in a no contest bout.

Taking third for the Hornets, was junior Kaleb Lodahl (113), winning over Landon Obermueller, of Glenwood City, in a 2:52 fall, as did sophomore Mitchell Reineke (190), who saw his match go to Glenwood City’s Connor Gross, by fall, in 1:31.

Those four will now move onto Sectionals, in Edgar, Feb. 17.

“I am excited for Kaleb, Caden, Mitchell and Axel to have a chance to qualify for the State championship,” said Spaeth.

Falling short in their quest to move on, but still finishing in fifth place, were sophomore Monte Lodahl (126), and freshmen Evan Lallemont (120) and Owen Fasbender (132), while freshman Jon Phelps (144) fell, taking sixth place. Competing, but not placing, were senior Nick Goettl (150) and sophomore Anthony Glenz (285).

“We learned many valuable lessons this weekend, and our young wrestlers know what they need to do in the offseason, if they want to advance farther in the tournament series,” said Spaeth.
