Cold shooting against a fast and scrappy Neillsville team brought an end to Loyal’s four-game winning streak last week Tuesday. The Greyhounds hosted the Warriors at home in what proved to be a challenging contest for Loyal.

The game started slow as each team tried to find the other team’s weakness. The first three minutes saw a 3-3 tie on the scoreboard. A Jacob Schill 3-pointer, Reed Stieglitz 3-pointer and Bryce Deegan deuce capped an 8-2 run, putting the Hounds up 11-5. Neillsville called a timeout to regroup, and that they did, as they had an 8-2 run of their own knotting the score at 13 with 10 minutes left on the clock. The first half ended with Loyal down by a score of 32-20.

Loyal came out of the locker room and hit a deep freeze as Neillsville manufactured a 17-1 run. A swarming, quick defense by Neillsville caused numerous turnovers and many missed shots. Loyal committed over 25 turnovers in the game. The Hounds were held to 12 points in the second half while the Warriors were able to triple that by scoring 36. The bench players finished out the game bringing the final score to 66-34. Loyal struggled hitting 2-pointers , tallying just seven on the night while Neilsville put down 20. Neillsville had three players score in double figures. Stieglitz topped Loyal’s scoring with 8 points. Schill scored 6, with Rhett Lamovic and Hunter Walter scoring 5 each. Landyn Johnston scored 3. Deegan, Cain Toufar and Hudson Hanson each had 2 points. Carson Bremmer rounded out the scoring with a free throw.

According to an unofficial tally, Walter and Toufar cleared 8 rebounds apiece with Deegan adding 5.

Greenwood boys take on Gilman

The Greenwood boys faced Gilman at home Jan. 30. Above, Nicholas Vetterkind passes the ball upcourt. Below, Keagan Gipe dribbles into the front court. Greenwood lost 43-30. Point totals for Greenwood were James Durrstein 12, Cody Eckes 4, Anton Livingston 4, Gipe 3, Jaren Cullen 3, Kody Johnson 2, and Vetterkind 2.
