Opponents’ numbers gang up on Wolfpack grapplers

The Cornell-Lake Holcombe-Gilman wrestlers had a busy week, first, with dual action, then a weekend of matches.

Jan. 18 vs. Clear Lake (L 61-6)

It was off to Bruce to begin the week’s action, where the Wolfpack faced Clear Lake. Thanks to larger numbers in their favor, the Warriors took a 61-6 victory.

Getting the win for the Wolfpack, was freshman Taydyn Angell (215 pounds), over Miguel Valdovinos, in a 5:31 fall. Senior Troy Duellman (157) dropped his match against Tyler Sunday, in an 8-0 major decision, as did freshman Kadyn Jones (138), in a match over Steven Wood, who won in a 5-2 decision.

Jan. 18 vs. Turtle Lake-Clayton (L 39-9)

The Wolfpack then met Turtle Lake-Clayton, who claimed a 39-9 win.

Duellman got the win over Brandon Wright, in a 6-3 decision, as did Angell, over Dawson Nordquist, by fall, in 3:39, while Jones dropped his match with Owen Anderson, in a 4-0 decision.

Jan. 20 St. Croix Falls Invitational

Next on their schedule, the Wolfpack headed to St. Croix Falls, with Duellman and Angell each claiming fourth place.

Duellman dropped his match against Baldwin-Woodville’s Taden Holldorf, while Angell saw his match go to Zach Hellendrung, of Boyceville, in a 4-1 decision.

Jones finished his day in the consolation round, dropping the match in a 3:06 fall, to North Branch’s Ethan Kester.
