Hornets fall just shy of the dual championship

It all came down to one match-up, to determine if Cadott’s boys wrestling program would hold co-rights to the dual championship, but the opportunity slipped by.
Jan. 25 vs. Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal (L 40-37)
The stakes were high, as Cadott headed to Neillsvile, for a meet to determine who would get a share of the conferance dual crown. It was a battle, with Neillsville coming out just ahead of the Hornets, taking a 40-37 win.
Picking up victories for Cadott, were junior Kaleb Lodahl (126 pounds), over Josh Reis, in a 1:45 fall, as well as freshman Owen Fasbender (138), who won over Jerome Buchanon, by fall, in 3:23. Freshman Jon Phelps (144) also got the win, over Evan Kautzer, in a 9-0 major decision, while sophomore Mitchell Reineke (215) won over Damian Sampson, in a 5:08 fall.
Senior Axel Tegels also won in his match against Jackson Meyer, with a 4-1 decision, with freshman Evan Lallemont (120) and senior Caden Kingston (175) taking wins by forfeit.
“I am very proud of our performance and effort,” said coach Josh Spaeth.
Jan. 25 vs. Osseo-Fairchild-Augusta-Fall Creek (W 57-6)
Next up, Cadott faced Osseo’s program, dominating the competition, for a 57-6 win.
Getting the win, was sophomore Iszy Sonnentag (106), over Aaliyah Zamora, by fall, in 1:40, as well as freshman Garret Engel (126), over Abby Moss, in a 1:56 fall. Phelps also won, over Mason Antczak, in a 7-3 decision, followed by Reineke, over Noah Krueger, in just 38 seconds.
Picking up another win, was Tegels, against Gryphon Brown, by fall, in 1:14, along with junior Tucker Salzgeber (285), Lodahl, Fasbender, freshman Brenton Faber (144) and Kingston picking up forfeit victories.
“One could say that we out-wrestled both teams, on a head-to-head basis,” said Spaeth.
