The Cornell boys basketball squad faced some tough competition over the week, taking on the top two teams in the East Lakeland Conference.

Jan. 23 vs. New Auburn conference (L 82-33)

New Auburn was first up, with the Chiefs hitting the road to square off with the Trojans. Scoring proved to be a problem for Cornell, as they went into halftime down by 24 points.

The second half was much of the same and the game went to the Trojans, 82-33.

Senior Bentley Spangler led for Cornell, with 14 points, followed by senior Jayden Joas-Shaw, with 6, while junior Hunter Anders was right behind, with 5. Junior Torren Parker finished with 4 points, and senior Carter Harycki and freshman Bryce DeJongh each added 2.

Jan. 26 vs. Flambeau conference (L 75-36)

At the end of the week, Cornell played host to Flambeau, where scoring again was a factor. The Chiefs faced a tall Falcons squad, which dominated on the scoreboard, holding Cornell to just 18 points in the first half.

In the second half, the Chiefs didn’t fare any better and the match went to the Falcons, 75-36.

Spangler again led for Cornell, with 12 points, while Anders had 7 and Shaw added 6. Harycki and DeJongh each notched 4 points on the night, and Parker chipped in with 2.
