Chiefs give up matches to the Raiders and Warriors

Cornell started out the week on the road, for the boys basketball team, before culminating in a cross-conference clash at home.

Jan. 16 vs. Bruce conference (L 82-34)

It was off to Bruce for the East Lakeland Conference bout, where the Chiefs struggled to put points on the board. The end of the first half saw Cornell down by 28 at halftime and in the second half, scoring was almost non-existent for the Chiefs.

Bruce was relentless and put away the game, 83-29.

Jayden Joas-Shaw, senior, led for Cornell with 10 points, followed by sophomore Carson Stipek, with 7, with junior Torren Parker right behind, with 5. Freshman Bryce DeJongh added 3 points to the mix, while junior Hunter Anders and sophomore Grady Abbott each chipped in with 2.

Jan. 18 vs. Clear Lake non-conference (L 83-29)

To end the week, Cornell saw Clear Lake come to town from the West Lakeland Conference. Once again, the Chiefs struggled to score and trailed by 26 points going into the break.

The second half also saw Cornell in an offensive drought, while the Warriors continued to add to their score. In the end, time ran out, with the Chiefs unable to catch up and the match went to the visitors, 82-34.

Anders finished with 17 points for Cornell, while Parker notched 8 and senior Bentley Spangler recorded 5. DeJongh and junior Sorik Spangler each contributed 2 points.

The Chiefs are now 1-13 on the year, and 0-7 in league action.
