Cornell’s basketball program saw the girls take on two conference foes over the week, putting in good efforts again their opponents.

New Auburn was first up, acting as host to the Chiefs. Cornell’s scoring just wasn’t there, as they were down by 19 at halftime and the second half was almost a repeat. Cornell couldn’t catch up and the Trojans captured the home win, 63-29.
Freshman Haylee Ellis led for the Chiefs, with 11 points and 5 rebounds, followed by junior Bralee Schroeder, who notched 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Senior Lauren Samardzich followed that up with 6 points and 9 blocks, and junior Alyssa Bowe chipped in with 2 points.

“Being short-numbered once again, makes things a little harder for everyone,” said coach Stacy Schroeder, after a close-fought game was played against Flambeau on Cornell’s court.
The Chiefs were only down by six points at the break and came storming back, to outscore the Falcons. It was a back-and-forth contest, but at the end, despite scrappy efforts from Cornell’s athletes, Flambeau went home with a 62-57 victory.
“The girls played hard against Flambeau,” said S. Schroeder. “They played tough and never gave up.”
Ellis recorded a whopping 22 points, along with 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks, while Bowe was just a step behind, with 19 points and 7 rebounds. B. Schroeder came next, with 8 points, 5 steals and 5 assists, while senior Grace Harycki added 4 points and 3 steals.
Rounding out the scoring, senior Teryn Close chipped in with 2 points.
