The Cadott girls basketball program watched two league teams come to town over the week, splitting the matches.

Jan. 23 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (W 56-41)

First up, Cadott played host to Stanley-Boyd, outmatching their long-time rivals in the first half, taking a nine-point lead into halftime.

“It was an exciting senior night, and I know the girls really wanted to have a great game,” said coach Dave Hazuga.

The Orioles weren’t going down without a fight in the second half, but Cadott held on to claim a 56-41 victory.

“We rebounded well and put on some pressure, and that got us is in control of the game, after we were down early,” said Hazuga.

Senior Emma Kowalczyk and sophomore Tayler Hager each shot a pair of three-pointers, each finishing with 13 points, while junior Kasey Moldrem knocked down three shots from beyond the arc, for 9 points. Sophomore Kennedy Nerdrum followed that with 8 points, with senior Bradee Burish adding 6.

Sophomore Lilly Spaeth shot a threepointer, and junior McKenna Steinke and sophomore Danielle Sikora each chipped in with 2 points.

“The girls came out and really put together a good complete game,” said Hazuga.

Jan. 26 vs. McDonell conference (L 73-31)

A few nights later, the Hornets acted as host to McDonell, but the scoring just wasn’t there. Cadott was down by 24 points at the break and while their defense was spot-on in the second half, scoring dried up and the Macks took the win, 73-31.

“We showed some good improvements from the first time we played them,” said Hazuga.

Nerdrum led for Cadott, with 11 points, while Moldrem and Spaeth each shot a pair of three-pointers, for 6 points each. Hager was right behind, also shooting a three-pointer and ending with 5 points, followed by junior Tarynn Donahue, who also shot a three.

“We are improving in the areas we need to,” said Hazuga.
