Cadott splits their games between Cards and Hawks

The girls basketball program at Cadott saw success to begin the week, but were outscored just a few days later.

Jan. 18 vs. Thorp conference (W 59-35)

“Thursday night, we got off to a good start again and kept up the intensity,” said coach Dave Hazuga.

Cadott played host to conference opponent Thorp, jumping out head of the Cardinals by 22 points at the halfway mark. Although Thorp picked up their scoring in the secnd half, the Hornets took their nice-sized lead on to a 59-35 victory.

“The girls have been working hard and getting better in the areas we’ve been focusing on,” said Hazuga. “Our last few games have shown that.”

Leading for Cadott, was sophomore Taylor Hager, with 22 points, followed by junior Kasey Moldrem, who shot from the arc three times, ending with 11 points. Sophomores Danielle Sikora and Kennedy Nerdrum came next, with 5, while senior Bradee Burish had 4 points.

Junior Tarynn Donahue connected on a three-pointer and junior McKenna Steinke also added 3 points.

Jan. 22 vs. Bloomer conference (L 66-34)

After the weekend off, the Hornets hosted Bloomer, where they hit a scoring drought, putting just 17 points on the scoreboard before halftime. Bloomer led by seven at the half, giving Cadott a chance to make a comeback, but scoring in the second mirrored that of the first for the Hornets.

The Blackhawks went home with a 66-34 win, making Cadott’s overall record of 8-8, while they are 2-7 in the league.

Moldrem finished with 9 points for the Hornets, while senior Emma Kowalczyk was right behind, with 8. Hager chipped in with 6 points, followed by Nerdrum, who had 4, and freshman Ava Eiler, who made a three-pointer. Burish and Sikora rounded out the scorebook, with 2 points each.
