Dane Luchterhand wins 175-pound class at Bluejay Challenge

In a tournament featuring nearly all northcentral Wisconsin teams, Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal (NGL) wrestler Dane Luchterhand rose to the top of his weight class Saturday. Competing in the Bluejay Challenge in Merrill, Dane Luchterhand defeated Riley Johnson of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser-Prairie Farm by fall (4:44) to earn first place in the 175-pound weight class.

Other NGL wrestlers competing at the Bluejay Challenge included the following: — Chase Lindner (106 pounds) won over Ryan Warzynski of Amherst by fall (3:53) in the first round.

— Rydge Tibbett (113) won over Isaiah Kraft of Edgar by 6-0 decision.

— Adam Kautzer (132) defeated Alix Colby of Abbotsford/ Colby by 6-0 decision in the first consolation round, but lost to Teague Holzer of Saint Croix Central by 12-1 major decision in round one.

— Jerome Buchanan (138) defeated Caiden Paul of Stanley-Boyd by fall (5:34) in the first consolation round. He also defeated Corey Schilling of Edgar by fall (1:46) in the second consolation round. He lost to Everett Knospe of Saint Croix Central in round two.

— Evan Kautzer (144) defeated Austin Schreiber of Edgar by fall (5:14) in round three. He lost to Maverick Kostrzak of Saint Croix Central by fall (1:42) and Alex Sundermeyer of Abbotsford/Colby by fall (4:23) in the two previous rounds.

— Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt (150) defeated Brodric Westrom of Stanley-Boyd by fall (0:47) in round three.

— Jakob Luchterhand (165) defeated James Chamberlain of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser-Prairie Farm by major decision, 17-8, in the second consolation round.

—Jackson Meyer (285) defeated Corey Koeppl of Edgar by fall (3:28) in the third round.

— Josh Reis (120) lost to Camryn Wille of Saint Croix Central by fall (3:19) in the 15th-place match.

— Gavyn McFarlane (157) lost to Adam Foss of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser-Prairie Farm by 7-5 decision in round three.
