Two champions come from Northern Badger for Hornets

By Ginna Young

Cadott’s girls wrestling program brought home two championships Dec. 29, from the Northern Badger in Black River Falls.

“The girls came ready to wrestle and brought the intensity,” said coach Zack Sirny.

Sophomore Iszy Sonnentag (107 pounds) took first place, winning in the quarterfinals over Olivia Luther, River Falls, then taking down Somerset’s Maggie Alberts, in a 2:12 fall, before facing Freedom’s Caitlynn Morack, winning in just 54 seconds.

Freshman Tessa York (120) also was crowned champion, receiving a bye in the quarterfinals and semifinals, before claiming victory over Makenna Herrmann, of Abbotsford-Colby, by fall, in 3:47.

Senior Makenna Harel fell just shy of the title, placing second, dropping her match to Cameron’s Reyanna Ladd, in a 3:54 fall, while senior Alaina Kempen took third.

“We have seven weeks to continue improving, learning and preparing for the girls Sectional tournament, on Feb. 17,” said Sirny.
