Northern Badger shows Wolfpack what to work on

By Ginna Young

A two-day wrestling tournament Dec. 28-29, in Black River Falls, was a good way to pass the holidays for the Cornell-Lake Holcombe-Gilman Wolfpack squad.

“The Northern Badger is a good place to have great competition and that’s what we found,” said coach Zach Person.

Freshman Taydyn Angell (215 pounds) took top honors for the Wolfpack, earning a seventh place finish over Memomonie’s Bryce Shepard, by fall, in 1:34, with four pins between the two days. Senior Troy Duellman (157) placed ninth, dropping his match in overtime, to Freedom’s Vincent Cook.

Junior Preston Fredrickson (144) went 2-1, with a pin, while freshman Kadyn Jones (138) was 0-2.

“We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend,” said Person. “We ended up having some matches slip away that we shouldn’t have, but we need to learn from our previous matches to get better. We are looking forward to keep working on our stuff, to become ready for the post-season.”
