Pirates sneak one by Chiefs

By Ginna Young

Cornell’s boys basketball program saw the Gilman Pirates come to call Nov. 30, in what turned out to be a close game at the end. While the Chiefs were down by 12 at the break, the team wouldn’t give up and came storming back to limit Gilman to only 15 points in the second part of the game.

“Very proud of the way we played in the second half,” said coach Jon Hetke.

Despite the comeback, it wasn’t quite enough and Cornell dropped the game to Gilman, 48-44.

Leading for Cornell, was junior Torren Parker, with 17 points, while senior Bentley Spangler racked up 12 points and freshman Bryce DeJongh had 7 points. Senior Jayden Joas-Shaw and junior Hunter Anders each added 3 points, with sophomore Carson Stipek chipping in with 2.

“Tough loss in a close game,” said Hetke.
