Lake Holcombe piles on the points over LCO

By Ginna Young

Lake Holcombe was on the road at LCO, Nov. 28, for a boys basketball match-up, stepping out of the conference. The first half started out a little shaky, before the Chieftains picked up steam after the break.

“With the Thanksgiving holiday and the water break at school, we weren’t in the gym for almost a week, and we came out pretty rusty,” said coach Joy Webster. “We missed a lot of in-the-paint shots and went into halftime, trailing 30-28.”

Kicking the offense and defense into gear, Lake Holcombe went on to outscore LCO by 32 points after the break, to bring home an 80-49 win.

Junior Brian Strzok had a double-double, with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Taye Yeager had 22 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals. Junior Ryley Craker notched 11 points, leading the team with 4 assists, followed by freshman Emmit Johnson, who scored 10 points off the bench.

Junior Chase Burgees came up with 8 points and 7 rebounds on the night, while senior Trent Nitek had a solid night defensively, with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, along with 1 point from a free throw. Junior Trent Lee and sophomore Tyler Hattamer each added 2 points to the mix.
